Upcoming Winter Events in Taos Ski Valley 2022

12 January 2022

Winter in Taos Ski Valley means a thick snow blanket on the mountains (hopefully) and plenty of roaring fires inside cabins. But while the lower temperatures are perfect for hibernating after a long day on the slopes, winter here isn’t restricted to ski, hot cocoa, sleep, repeat. We also have a ton of exciting events including ski competitions, charity activities, scavenger hunts, and networking opportunities coming soon.

So mark your calendars, these are the winter goings-on you won’t want to miss in Taos Ski Valley 2022.

TAOS WINTER WINE FEST, FEBRUARY 3 - 5 The Taos Winter Wine Fest is a four-day event that brings together more than 30 wineries from around the country to treat visitors to a taste of the US’s best grapes. Enjoy Reserve Tasting, winery seminars, a silent wine auction, or simply kick back with a glass in hand while taking in the stunning views around our mountain. The festival also partners with 20 of Taos’s best restaurants and chefs, who provide a range of spectacular al fresco luncheons.

Attendees will be asked to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination or a negative antigen/PCR test 48 hours before the event. ID is required and under 21s are not permitted to enter.

INDUSTRY DEMO DAYS (PRIVATE), FEBRUARY 15 - 16 This invite-only Industry Demo Day brings together local stores, sales reps, and big-name brands like Burton and Rossignol to showcase their newest ski clothing and equipment. The event takes place at the base of Lift 1, and check-in opens from 8:30 am until 2 pm each day in The Looking Glass.

Pre-registration should be completed before February 11 at 5 pm and costs $20 per person, per day, or $30 per person for both days. On-the-day registration costs $25 and $35 respectively. Attendees will be asked for valid shop identification upon check-in. This means it is a closed event to the public and only participating vendors and industry professionals can attend. Attendees can also take advantage of a discounted lift ticket ($75 per day).

ADULT FREERIDE, MARCH 1 - 4 Come March, Taos Ski Valley will host a range of freeride events for athletes from around the globe. The big mountain freeride is New Mexico’s largest and most prestigious ski and snowboard competition, with the 2* Freeride World Qualifying event taking place on March 1, and the 4* event March 3-4. There’s also a two-day Master Division to take advantage of, as professionals try to get one step closer to the Freeride World Tour.

Contenders get to celebrate their achievements in the outdoor awards ceremony on March 4th.

NEW BELGIUM RALLY IN THE VALLEY, MARCH 12 A great opportunity for the whole family, the New Belgium Rally in the Valley is a scavenger hunt where teams ski or board around the mountain following clues and looking to collect different items. Although not mandatory, many people choose to wear costumes while on their search, and there’s of course an after-party to recognize the winners. Prizes even include a brand new pair of Fat Tire skis by Rocky Mountain Underground.

Registration opens at 9 am, and the hunt begins at 10 am and goes until 3 pm. It’s $10 per person and teams can be made up of four people or fewer. All proceeds go to the Field Institute of Taos, a non-profit outdoor education program for kids.

LOVE YOUR PEAKS: BOARDING FOR BREAST CANCER, MARCH 13 Looking to ride while helping out a great cause? On March 13 Taos Ski Valley welcomes Boarding for Breast Cancer’s event “Love Your Peaks” to raise awareness and funds for people affected by the disease. The event features the K2 Bumps Challenge and a “marathon” down the slope at Al’s Run. Many skiers and snowboarders opt to wear pink to demonstrate their support. Last year the event raised a total of $22,000.

RIDGE-A-THON, MARCH 18 - 19 Another charity event, the Ben Myers Ridge-A-Thon is a snowsports fundraising event, this time presented by Taos Community Foundation. The event has been going strong for over a decade. Participating athletes get people to sponsor them to lap around the hiking and skiing ridge as many times as possible. Participants can choose between three categories, depending on their location and preferred terrain intensity.

Ridge-A-Thon has raised close to $700,000 in funds to support community health and basic needs through grantmaking.

WORLD PRO SKI TOUR, APRIL 7 - 10 Professional skiers from around the world flock to Taos Ski Valley in April to race side-by-side in a single-elimination downhill race. Making their way through a series of rounds, skiers earn points and edge closer to competing for the World Pro Ski Tour World Championship title. Olympian and World Cup athletes are not uncommon, and previous high-profile names include Alice McKennis, Laurenne Ross, Anna Goodman, Ted Ligety, and Rob Cone.

2022’s tour will feature eleven races total: eight men’s events and three women’s events.

Further information about tickets, schedules, and spectator events will be released in the coming months. Stay tuned!
